Congratulations—you’re getting married! The cake is picked, your outfits are steamed, and the anticipation is electric. But amidst the excitement, nerves are normal. At Heuningsoet Photography, we know how important it is for couples to look and feel genuinely joyful on their wedding day. Your photos will capture love, laughter, and spontaneous moments—if you’re relaxed enough to let them happen! Here are our favorite top tips to help you unwind and enjoy every click, snap, and candid from your big day.

1. Trust Your Photographer

You chose your photographer because you love their work and vibe. Now, let go and trust them! When you relax and allow your photographer to gently guide you, your images will radiate authenticity and happiness. Spend a little time getting to know your photographer before the day, so taking photos feels like hanging out with a friend, not posing for a stranger.

2. Plan Buffer Time

Running late = stress. Build extra time into your schedule for photos, especially after the ceremony. This way, if things run over (they usually do!), you won’t have to rush shots or miss special moments. Plus, the relaxed vibe will show on your faces.

3. Personal Touches for Big Smiles

Bring along something meaningful—your favorite playlist for dancing while you get ready, a family heirloom, or cute props for playful photos. These little touches bring out genuine smiles and make your photo session uniquely yours.

4. Get Moving!

Walking hand-in-hand, spinning, dancing, or even goofing around not only keeps the nerves at bay but produces lively, natural photos. Don’t worry about perfecting your pose; movement brings out the magic.

5. Focus on Each Other

When the camera’s trained on you, it’s easy to feel self-conscious. Instead, turn your attention to your partner, share a private joke, or sneak a kiss. The most beautiful photos capture your connection—forget everything else and just be present together.

6. Breathe (Literally)

If you feel tense, take a few slow, deep breaths. Consciously relax your shoulders, jaw, and hands. A few grounding moments can make all the difference in helping you look calm and comfortable in your photos.

7. Let Go of Perfection

The unplanned moments are what make your wedding day—and your photos—special. If something goes awry, laugh it off. Some of the best pictures happen in those in-between, candid moments when you’re simply being yourselves.

8. Keep Loved Ones Close

Surround yourself with your favorite people before and during your photo sessions. Their energy will boost yours, help you relax, and make the experience even more fun.

9. Hydrate & Snack

It sounds simple, but keeping hydrated and having a quick snack can keep your mood (and energy) up. Nobody wants a hangry couple for those sunset portraits!

10. Remember: This Is YOUR Day

At the end of the day, your wedding is all about you and your love. Try to let go of any pressure to perform. If you’re having fun, laughing, and soaking up the moment, your photos will be beautiful—promise.
